Lab Learning's
Kindergarten and First Grade
Students are introduced to several different software applications. Students use Type to Learn Jr. software, which uses animated programs that take students from finding letters and numbers on the keyboard to typing carefully selected words. Students will be introduced to Microsoft Word. They will also enjoy using the KidPix software to express their creativity. This software allows students to paint and create their own artwork on the computer.
We focus on the use of the keyboard to log on and off the computer and the mouse to open and close software applications. We will also learn terms for basic parts of the computer.
Second and Third Grade
Each student will be given a unique user name and password to use to log on and off the computer. They are introduced to Microsoft Word and Power Point. 3rd graders will also be introduced to Microsoft Excel. Each student will focus on improving their keyboarding to reinforce this life long skill by using the Type to Learn IV software.
Fourth and Fifth Grade
Students use their network accounts to log on and off the computers in the lab. Using their account properly permits students to type in the Lab or Media Center and then they can edit projects from their classroom.
Students use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Power Point to complete projects. We continue to focus on the life long skills of typing by utilizing the various levels of the Type to Learn IV software.
